Transaero, in association with the Kyneton Aero Club and Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia, will host Australia's Biggest Morning Tea to raise money for the Cancer Council of Victoria. Once again the event will be held at Kyneton Airfield with the generous assistance of the Kyneton Aero Club.
Aviators are encouraged to fly-in to Kyneton to enjoy morning tea in the hangar. All we ask in return is that you make a donation to the Cancer Council.
Non-flyers are also most welcome; the Airfield is on Kyneton-Metcalfe Rd just north of the Kyneton township. There is plenty of parking and it is a great opportunity to see a huge range of aircraft up close. The event is a perfect opportunity for Macedon Ranges locals to visit the Kyneton Airfield and enjoy morning tea while supporting a worthy cause.
Fly-in visitors will apreciate two runways and plenty of parking on the grass. See the ERSA entry for fly-neighbourly advice, and visit the Aeroclub website for more information www.kynetonaeroclub.org
This event would make a great destination for car and motorbike club outings, as well as Aero Clubs. If you have a group you would like to bring, please contact Kim and advise expected numbers so we can ensure there is enough food.

Sat27Jul2013Contact Steve Edmonds for details.
This is the time of the year when many members commit themselves to doing a little “hangar flying” to avoid the ravages of the winter weather. Maintenance, touch ups, improvements, rebuilds and projects are being done however away from Kyneton Airfield it’s hard to see what pilots are up to while in hibernation.
There have always been rumours about “Spitfires” in sheds, “Tigermoth’s” being rebuilt, “Winjeels” thought to be lost for all time but only to re-emerge after many winters and hours of work. With this in mind a number of the members of the Kyneton Aero Club have suggested that this time of the year could be a great opportunity to visit some of our members sheds to look at what is happening behind closed doors.
To get the ball rolling, long time member and significant contributor to the Australian Warbird fraternity Ian Whitney has invited members to take a look at his workshop and the progress he has been making on a number of projects including his Wirraway & P40 Kittyhawk.
Scheduled to take place on the taking place on Saturday 27th July at 12pm in Romsey, those members interested in attending should let me know if you wish to attend.

The Old Aviators Flying Museum is inviting all those passionate about aviation or classic cars to join the museum for the First Annual “Wings & Wheels” weekend at Maryborough Aerodrome in Victoria’s Central Goldfields. In a joint initiative with the Austin 7 Car Club, Central Goldfields Shire Council and the Old Aviators Flying Museum the event will be held on the weekend of 14 & 15 September 2013.
“Wings & Wheels” will provide a unique opportunity for aviators to attend a fly-in where aeroplanes are not the sole attraction. Historic cars will be on display, and a Historic Car Sprint will be held on the main runway on Sunday. There will be opportunities to tour “The Old Aviators Flying Museum” for the first time since its closure in January 2012.
Tours of local attractions will also be available on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning for visitors who wish to see more of the local attractions than the aerodrome.
Our very own Kyneton based team from “Adventure Flights Unlimited” will be displaying the Yak52 with a few runs across the township to promote the event. However we hoping that with further assistance of the members from the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia and others yet to be confirmed we will be able to make this a great day for everyone interested in getting involved.
To run such a large event it is hoped that members of the Kyneton Aero Club will be able to assist in making this a great day out. If you are interested in getting involved in supporting the event on the day then please contact Kim Skyring at Transaero on 0418 100 028 with any enquiries.
Updated information will be posted on the website www.wingsandwheels.net.au which is currently being established. For local information and accommodation then please visit www.visitmaryborough.com.au for options.

Within a short period of time, it has achieved a passionate following and presence among pilots and aviation enthusiasts worldwide who see the film as being able to communicate their passion for aviation. Sun23Oct2016Kyneton Airfield*** Postponement of the 2016 Kyneton Air Show ***The Kyneton Airshow Committee; comprising members from the Kyneton Aero Club and Rotary Clubs of Kyneton and Woodend, have had to make the regrettable decision to postpone the planned Kyneton Aero Club’s 50th Anniversary Airshow due to heavy and persistent Spring rainfall that has made the vast majority of the Kyneton Airfield unserviceable.This decision has not been made lightly, as the Committee is very much aware of the disruption that this may cause to vendors, participants and visitors. However, safety of all involved must, and always will, be our primary concern, and with the current condition of the Airfield surfaces, and also the areas required for parking and logistics support, we do not believe it is prudent to proceed with the 23 October date.The Airshow Committee is seeking to identify an alternate date, likely to be in the first half of 2017, when it can hold the Airshow without conflicting with other tourism events in the Macedon Ranges and/or other Aviation events around the State. Once a date is finalised we will be in touch with further advice about the plans for the event.

With a very hot end to the week and Saturday 06 Jan forecast for 39C the Club has decided not to hold the usual first Saturday of the Month Gourmet Hot Dog Fly-in. Many members will want to stay home to be prepared for the fire risk; it may well be a day of Total Fire Ban, and the density altitude will make OPS more challenging, particularly for those not familiar with YKTN. Assuming more favourable weather we will recommence our Monthly Fly-in on Saturday 03 February.

The introduction of Pt61 has increased the requirements for underpinning knowledge, not just demonstrated skills, in a number of areas; including Aerobatic Endorsements. Many Pilots achieved their Aerobatic training prior to the formal requirement for underpinning knowledge being introduced and perhaps with little or no theory component. With 40% of the Aircraft based at Kyneton Airfield being capable of Aerobatics this highlights the need to revisit this aspect and to discuss issues such as aerodynamics, structural loads, and human factors/physiology as they apply to the Pilot and Airplane conducting Aerobatics.
As usual, guests are most welcome, the session will be presented by KAC President, Warren Canning, and will follow the General Meeting and conclude with Supper.

Dick Gower is a highly experienced Flying Instructor and owner of a DH Chipmunk; he has taught countless Pilots the necessary skills and underpinning knowledge to safely operate tailwheel aircraft. Some of our Members will have seen Dick's presentation on the subject at an Antique Aircraft Association of Australia Fly-in a few years back, those that did will recall how insightful and entertaining it was. Therefore, the KAC is extremely pleased that Dick has agreed to present on this topic at our May meeting, which is of particular relevance to KAC given 50% of the aircraft based at YKTN are tailwheel. As usual, guests are most welcome, and supper will be served following Dick's presentation.

Mon15Oct2018Kyneton Airfield - 1503 Kyneton-Metcalfe Road Kyneton VIC 3444
The Club's October General Meeting commences at 1830 on Monday the 15th.
Following the General Meeting, David Pilkington, a highly experienced Aeronautical Engineer, Aerobatic Competition and Display Pilot, and Flying Instructor will provide a presentation (1930 - 2130) on LOC-I:
Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I) remains one of the most significant contributors to fatal accidents worldwide. LOC-I in the GA context refers to accidents where the PIC was unable to maintain control of the aircraft, resulting in an unrecoverable deviation from the intended flight path.
LOC-I is one of the most complex accident categories, involving numerous contributing factors that act individually or, more often, in combination.
Reducing this accident category is best achieved through understanding the causes and possible intervention strategies; in the GA training context this is referred to as Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT). David’s talk will cover such topics as:
- stats - why UPRT is extremely important to us;
- from the NTSB safety roadshow at Oshkosh 2018 - with the FAA, UND, AOPA and Patty Wagstaff - the whole gamut of what the USA is doing, with a focus on pilot training per Patty;
- new from the FAA in 2017 is their revised Airplane Flying Handbook - Chapter 4 has been rewritten - formerly "Slow Flight, Stalls and Spins" - it is now "Maintaining Aircraft Control: Upset Prevention and Recovery Training";
- application in CPL flight training - CAE Oxford's UPRT course;
- CASA's Part 61 RPL syllabus and the CASA Flight Instructor Manual- slow flight, stalls and incipient spins;
- what new pilots can do to top up their basic training; and
- what other pilots can do to enhance their skills - perhaps as part of a Flight Review.
As usual, guests are very welcome; the Presentation will be followed by a light supper.

Theo Willford is a private pilot and amateur aircraft builder from the U.K. who was involved in rebuilding a WWI Bristol Scout fighter. Starting with the original control stick, rudder bar and one magneto, and with a set of original factory drawings, Theo and his colleagues built a completely new but authentic reconstruction of a WWI Bristol Scout, right down to the Irish linen covering. KAC member, Frank Deeth, first met Theo approximately two years ago when he was visiting his daughter on the Mornington Peninsular. Not to be satisfied with the completion of the Bristol Scout, Theo is now building a Corby Starlet and through a mutual friend in the U.K. he looked Frank up during his last visit to talk, amongst all things aviation, Corby Starlets; naturally the Bristol Scout and Frank’s Spitfire projects came up as well. Since then Frank has had the privilege of catching up with Theo in the U.K. and getting an up close and personal look at the Bristol Scout based in the Shuttleworth Collection at Biggleswade near Duxford/Cambridge. Theo along with the two grandsons of an original Bristol Scout pilot take the aircraft on the road throughout the U.K. flying season to various flying and non-flying historical events to help educate the masses about the Bristol Scout and its role in WWI. Theo has kindly offered to give a talk at the Kyneton Aero Club on the building and flying of the Bristol Scout. A light supper will be provided following Theo's talk and, as usual, guests are most welcome.

Jetstar Pilot and Macedon Ranges local John Smart will talk about how professional Airline crews are trained and assessed in their Non-Technical Skills and Human Factors every year, and at every simulator session. Like airline pilots, Private and General Aviation pilots should always strive to be “professional” pilots, and as such should continually update their skills and knowledge.
In aviation accidents and incidents worldwide, 80% of these are caused in some way by human factors. John's talk will centre around 3 of the major non-technical skills all pilots should continually work on. These are Communication, Management and Situational Awareness. He will look into case studies where human Factors were contributing factors, look at some of the theory behind these skills, and put forward some “tools for the toolbox” that pilots can use not only in their flying lives, but in their personal lives as well.
As usual, guests are most welcome and John's presentation will be followed by a light supper.

Maryanne Wright has been Accounts Manager of Wrightsair for nearly 30 years.
With this background she is rich in knowledge of the history, personalities (namely Trevor Wright), the energy and sheer hard work that has made Wrightsair the success that it is today.
Wrightsair has gone from a very small 2 to 3 aircraft tourist business in the early 1990s to a company with over 20 aircraft, employing 20 to 35 commercial pilots plus administration staff today.
In addition it runs the iconic William Creek Pub!
Maryanne who with her partner, Adrian, is a regular at our RMH Neuroscience Foundation "Gourmet Hot Dog Fly-ins", will give a presentation on the history and growth of Wrightsair, an outback aircraft tourism and charter company. -

With the likely easing of COVID-19 restrictions over coming weeks we are hopeful that, with appropriate COVID safe practices being employed, we will be able to hold our Spring Working Bee to ensure the Airfield is maintained in its usual pristine condition.
As we get closer to the date we will confirm whether the event will proceed and also advise what equipment Members should aim to bring along; in the meantime please put this placeholder in your diaries.

The AGM of the Kyneton Aero Club Inc. will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday 19th December 2020 at the Kyneton Aero Club, 1503 Kyneton-Metcalfe Road, Kyneton.
Whilst the partial relaxation of the COVID-19 restrictions makes a physical AGM possible, the Committee recognises that some Members will prefer not to attend a physical meeting, therefore, the Committee also proposes to offer for any Member, who does not wish to attend in person, to be able to access the AGM via the Zoom application.
More detail on how the Zoom application can be accessed and used will be distributed directly to Members prior to the AGM.

With the partial relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions the KAC Committee believes it is appropriate that in order to help celebrate the end of a very challenging year we should go ahead with our Christmas function. However, this year the format will be different to ensure we can maintain safety and compliance with COVID-19 rules; therefore, as a hopefully one-off this year's event is a self-catered/BYO Picnic.

May Guest Speaker Warren Canning - "Development Flight Trials of the AVT Australia CM234 ISR Gimbal"
Kyneton Aero Club member, Warren Canning, also a member of the Flight Test Society of Australia, recently gave a presentation at the annual FTSA Symposium on the Development Flight Trials of the AVT Australia (AVTA) CM234 Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) Gimbal, an Australian capability that has been selected for integration onto the Insitu Pacific “ Integrator” platform being supplied to the Australian Army as part of Land 129 Phase 3, the CM234 has also been chosen by BAE for its STRIX VTOL UAV announced at Avalon 2023.
Whilst primarily destined for use on UAS/RPAS platforms, AVTA determined that it would be more practical to undertake the developmental flight trials on a crewed platform due to the complexity of operating a large enough RPAS in civilian Class G Airspace.
Warren will repeat his FTSA presentation for our Club; the presentation will cover regulatory considerations, engineering approvals for carriage of the payload, locating a suitable ground range, operational factors, flight trials campaigns and the successful demonstration of the initial operational capability to the customer. -
