February 2016 – Kyneton Aero Club “Fire Flight

Kyneton Fire Brigade members and their families were special guests at Kyneton Airfield on 6th Saturday this month, as the Kyneton Aero Club hosted its first ever ‘Fire Flight’ event.

The day involved members of the club volunteering their time and aircraft to take the firies and their families for a flight around their local area as a unique way of thanking them for work they do.

Aero club member Matt Henderson joined the brigade in June last year and became qualified in November and said he came up with the idea after seeing firsthand the amount of time and effort our local firefighters commit to the job.

“It was really a way for the members of the aero club to thank the brigade members for their service and their sacrifice,” Mr Henderson said.

“We conducted about 40 flights on the day with about 50 passengers and everyone had a really good time. It’s definitely something we’ll do again and while we focused on the Kyneton Fire Brigade this time, the Kyneton group has a number of brigades and we hope to spread it to other brigades possibly this year or next year.”

The brigade also brought all of its appliances out to the airfield to demonstrate their capabilities to club members and explain their roles as volunteer firefighters.

Brigade captain Josh Gamble said the brigade and their families were thrilled to join the club for the day.”It was great to strengthen the already strong relationship between the Kyneton Aero Club and the brigade,” Capt Gamble said.

“The appreciation shown by the aero club to the brigade is outstanding. Both organisations work well together to protect the community.”
